Back To The Bayou

I got on that bus today I didn’t turn my head around I got on that Greyhound one way ticket homeward bound I’m makin’ my way through Memphis Tennessee I going where the ocean meets the Mississippi

Cause at the end of the day I don’t miss those city lights I don’t miss New York city I don’t miss the urban lights and I don’t care if I never got to Paris or Rome I’m going back to the Bayou I’m going back where I belong

There’s a world in the Bayou that city folk don’t know a kingdom of colours with its own unwritten laws the tide it ebbs and the river it flows through the heart of Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Cause at the end of the day I don’t miss those city lights I don’t miss New York city I don’t miss the urban lights and I don’t care if I never got to Paris or Rome I’m going back to the Bayou I’m going back where I belong

Well the bayou has its secrets and it’s best not to ask cause it don’t know right from wrong things just are the way they are it don’t have no constitution no declaration of rights but it hears and sees everything so you’d better treat her right

Cause at the end of the day I don’t miss those city lights I don’t miss New York city I don’t miss the urban lights and I don’t care if I never got to Paris or Rome I’m going back to the Bayou I’m going back where I belong
